Official rules and regulations for Mellennial Sports Co-ed Soccer League

Important Notice

These rules are non-negotiable and have been established with your best interest as the number one priority. Any concerns may be brought to Mellennial Sports management and will be fully considered.

Note: In any unforeseen situations, all rules are determined and implemented by Mellennial Sports management.

Field Maintenance

Please stay accountable and keep the field clean after games. Throw away trash in the provided bins. Whatever you bring with you, you leave with.

Roster Requirements

Team Composition:

Coed 7v7: 6 field players, 1 goalie

Maximum: 12 players per team

Minimum: 6 players (5 field players, 1 goalie) required to play

Registration and Timeline:

Teams have until the THIRD week of regular season to finalize their roster

All team payments must be made prior to season start

Each player must sign the liability waiver once and be registered with Mellennial Sports to be eligible to play

One jersey per roster player

Substitute Players

If your team needs extra players, follow this process:

Contact Mellennial Sports to request the number of players needed

Your team captain may bring substitute players

Each substitute player is subject to the following:

  • Must pay a fee of $20 per game
  • Must sign the required liability waiver before taking the field

If no substitutes are available and you have a minimum of 6 players, your team may play one player down

Substitutes must play a minimum of three regular season games to be eligible for playoffs

Substitutes have until week 5 of regular season to achieve playoff eligibility

Player Replacement Rules

Medical/Injury/Relocation: If a player must be replaced due to medical issues, injury, or relocation, you must provide proof to Mellennial Sports before adding a replacement

Weeks 1-3 Replacement: A replacement player within weeks 1-3 must pay a three-game sub fee ($60) to be eligible to play the entire season (regular season and playoffs)

After Week 6: Replacements cannot be added if your team can field the minimum of 6 players

Pre-Game Requirements: Referees and team captains must be informed and agree upon all roster changes prior to kickoff.

Forfeiture Penalties

First Offense: Loss of game

Second Offense: Loss of game and playoff removal

Third Offense: Season forfeit

Advance Notice: If you know in advance that your team will forfeit a game, contact Mellennial Sports at least 24 hours in advance so they can notify your opponent.

Rankings

Ranking Tiebreaker Process:

Record

All teams ranked by win-loss record

Head-to-Head

If records are equal, head-to-head results are considered

Goals Against

If teams tie on both record and head-to-head, ranking is determined by goals allowed throughout the regular season (fewest goals against wins tiebreaker)

Playoff Eligibility and Games

Game Format

Two 20-minute halves

Ties at the end of regulation move to Golden Goal (see Scoring section)

Player Eligibility

Only players on the original roster can play in playoffs

Substitutes may play in playoffs only if they have:

  • Played minimum three regular season games
  • Signed the liability waiver
  • Completed payment
  • Received a jersey

Important: If a player hasn't played three complete games prior to playoffs and plays a playoff game, they are automatically out of the season.

Uniforms and Equipment

Jerseys

Team jerseys will be distributed by Mellennial Sports at the beginning of your team's first game of the season

One jersey per roster player

Team captains are responsible for reporting the number of jerseys needed and player sizes

Loss of jersey will result in a $10 replacement fee

Substitutes may purchase a jersey at $10

Substitutes playing a minimum of three games will receive a jersey after their third game to wear during playoffs

Important: Jerseys must be worn for every game

Footwear and Gear

Cleats: Only rubber cleats and/or rubber soles permitted (no metal cleats)

Protective Gear: Shin guards are recommended but not mandatory

Game Format

Game Duration: Two 20-minute halves with running clock

Game Rules and Play

Kickoff

Kickoff from center mark after a coin toss

The winning team will start with the ball

Goals cannot be scored directly from kickoff

Minimum two players must touch the ball before a goal can be scored

Defensive team must maintain 5 yards distance from the ball during kickoff

Substitutions and Field Play

Unlimited substitutions allowed

Teams do not need referee's permission or game stoppage for substitutions

Failure to maintain gender ratio on the field after substituting will result in a free kick for the opposing team

All players not in the game must stand in the designated off-field area

Ball in Play

Free Kicks: Indirect (minimum two players must touch ball before scoring)

No Off-Sides: Off-side rule does not apply

Goalie Restrictions: No intentional contact with the goalie

Prohibited Actions: No punting, no drop kicks

Goalie Throws: Goalie may throw directly over midfield

Goal Kicks: Not allowed to pass midfield without the ball touching the ground or a player other than the kicker

Throw-Ins: Standard soccer throw-in rules apply

Sliding: No sliding, no slide tackling

Goalie may NOT slide feet first to defend an oncoming player (violation results in foul; card may be issued after first offense)

Ball Retrieval: Whichever player makes last contact with the ball when it goes out of bounds must retrieve it

Game Ball: One game ball will be provided per game

Scoring

Regular Season

Games may end in a tie

Playoffs

Golden Goal will be used to determine winners

Golden Goal & Penalty Kicks (Playoffs)

Golden Goal (Playoffs)

First team to score wins

Maximum two 10-minute extra time periods

If both Golden Goal periods result in a tie, penalty kicks determine the winner

Penalty Kick Shootout (Playoffs)

Each team selects 6 shooters from players who were on field at end of Golden Goal

One shooter must be female

Shooters must have been playing in the game at the end of Golden Goal

Penalty Kick Shootout Procedure

First Round:

  • Each team selects 6 players from those fielded at the end of Golden Goal
  • Coin toss determines which team shoots first
  • Shots are taken at the same goal (determined by referee)
  • Teams alternate direct penalty shots
  • If the first round ends in a tie, proceed to sudden death

Sudden Death (Second Round):

  • One player from each team is selected to shoot
  • If both teams make their shots, two new shooters are chosen
  • First shooter to miss loses for their team
  • Players who shot in the first round cannot shoot again until all remaining players have shot
  • If a team needs to restart its lineup, the opposing team may reuse shooters as well

Indirect Kicks and Penalty Kicks

Indirect Kicks

Minimum two players must touch the ball before a goal is counted

Defending team must stand 5 yards back from the point of the indirect kick

Penalty Kicks

One player (not necessarily the player fouled) must be selected to take the penalty kick

All remaining players must stand behind the penalty box until the ball is struck

If the ball remains in play after the shot and the goalie defends it, the ball is fair game

Fouls, Sportsmanship, and Misconduct

General Principle: All foul calls are under the referee's discretion.

Prohibited Conduct

Players may not intentionally:

Trip another player

Kick or strike another player

Jump towards another player

Hold another player

Push or charge another player

Handling Fouls

Intentional Handball: Results in a free kick

Unintentional Handball: Referee discretion. Player protection from injury and non-deliberate contact with the ball will be decided by the referee.

Unsportsmanlike Behavior

Swearing, gesturing, or arguing with referees, players, or spectators will result in a card or ejection.

Yellow Card: 2-minute penalty with team playing down one player

Two Yellow Cards (One Game): Results in ejection from the game (two yellows equal one red)

Red Card: Automatic ejection; team must play the remainder of the game one player down

Note: All cards result in a free kick for the opposing team.

Slide Tackling Violations

First Violation: Free kick

Second Violation: Card issued

Multiple Violations: Ejection from game

Penalty Box Fouls

Any foul called within the penalty box is at the referee's discretion to be called as either an indirect kick or penalty kick.

Serious Misconduct

Any unsportsmanlike behavior will result in the player or team being carded, ejected, or suspended from games or future Mellennial Sports leagues.

Any violence will not be tolerated and will be handled accordingly by referees and Mellennial Sports operations.

Suspensions and Ejections

Referee Authority

ALL referee decisions are final and may not be disputed

Ejection Situations

Fight/Altercation: Players, team, or teams involved in a fight will be suspended from all Mellennial Sports leagues and recorded as forfeit for the remainder of the season

Excessive Contact: May result in ejection

Referee Abuse: Any player, team, or spectator who abuses the referee will automatically be ejected with no warning

Premises Removal: Mellennial Sports and all employees reserve the right to ask any person to leave the premises at any time
